Bushehr Lighthouse

Bushehr Lighthouse
One of the most significant urban landmarks, the “lighthouse” has a long history of being present in the picturesque port of Bushehr and brings back many memories for the local people. The revival of this icon on Bushehr Port's western coast marks the start of a new era in the city's public spaces as well as a fresh perspective on Bushehr's rich cultural heritage. This urban landmark is a modern interpretation, in the language of Bushehr's architecture, culture, and ancient art.
In the design of the Bushehr lighthouse tourism complex, the traditional architecture of Bushehr, its elements, and spatial qualities of the past are connected with the requirements and functions of contemporary urban space and it is an attempt to integrate it with the aesthetic view of the modern contacts.
The lighthouse emblem and the service building, make up the two components of the Bushehr lighthouse complex. The central concept represented by the lantern symbol is an abridged representation of the “Orosi”, a tall window that frames both the city and the sea. The white concrete and wood combination used in the building of this iconic window is reminiscent of the predominant hue of Bushehr city and its traditional houses. When observing the city from the ocean, the impact of this composition is more apparent. The maritime lighting system is situated in the upper portion of the lighthouse, beneath the arch of the window. The lantern arch is a design derived and simplified from the window panes of Bushehr traditional houses, and the light of the lantern is symbolically directed towards the sea from inside this pane. “Shamseh” is the symbol of the sun in Iranian architecture. The famed Bushehr hills have served as inspiration for the design of a sizable terrace located in the rear of the structure.
There are three floors in the service area of the building. Tourists board and disembark from tiny pleasure boats on the lower level, which is reached via stairs. There is an open, shaded corridor on the ground floor level that allows one to see the sea without being blocked from the city street. There is an art gallery, a seafood restaurant, and an international restaurant on the first level. Additionally, there is an open-air meeting area with an arching tensile structure that draws inspiration from Bushehr architecture. Also, visitors can take an elevator to the lighthouse's top floor to see the stunning beauty at sunrise and sunset, on two separate terraces called "Lian" - the old name of Bushehr City - which faces the city and the “Sunset” terrace which its direction is towards the sea sunset.
